Conversations from last night

"Sometimes I get nostalgic for conversations I had yesterday."
This is so college and blogger of me to post, but I can't resist talking about a hilarious conversation I had with one Mr. Kyle Baker last night on the subject of youth pastors.
At first we were commenting on Nate's new loss of his gotee.  I made the remark of how un-youth pastory he is now.
No gotee=No relevancy with teenagers.  Obviously.
We talked about the soul-patch for worship leaders, and the bleached blonde soul-patch for the extra radical worship leaders.
Spiked hair, gelled hair.  That must be a requirement.  Cargo shorts.  Zip-off cargo shorts.
This video.
I can't do it justice without doing the youth pastor voice, but when they talk about sex, this is what usually happens:
"Alright, guys, tonight we're gonna talk about sex.  OKOKOKOK, LAUGH IT OUT, I KNOW YOU'RE LAUGHING!! HAHA!!"
And this is before anyone has laughed.
"Now, has anyone here seen the movie Braveheart/The Matrix?  NOW I'M NOT RECOMMENDING IT, IT'S RATED R AND STUFF GUYS!!"
"I know what you guys are thinking, there's sex in the Bible?!  Yeah, man, there's sex in the Bible, man.  SEXSEXSEX SEX IN THE BIBLE WHOA DUDE."
And I'm only slightly exaggerating.

Union's Last Stand

The last Union show is this Friday.  I just hope I don't get too emotional during "Take Me Back," but we'll see.  I sat in on bass a couple days ago for a couple of songs, 'cause Terrell was out and about during practice and we worked out some songs for two drummers-John sitting in with Pants.  "Arrival" was earth-shatteringly good and I'm sure everyone in the audience will be crying and making out with each other during the whole song.  It's that good.

I remember sitting down with Jason Bennett at Hot Corner right after I decided to play with The Cubs exclusively.
"Man, bands ruin friendships," he was saying.  And I remember thinking how that was my biggest fear in leaving Union.

Flicker Theater.  This Friday.  10 pm.  Be there.

life after college

Today I slept until 11 again. Life after college is fun because you don't have anymore pesky 9 or 10 am classes to mess with your sleep schedule.

But then there's that lingering problem of my future...

And so many books to read.

After graduating from college, one is forced to look back and reassess the past. Which girls in college should I have dated? And why didn't I? And what does this mean? And you start looking back on your freshman year-18 years old and you think you know everything. And then you turn around and you're 22 and you realize you know a lot less than everything, and probably even less than you think you do. Even after that awesome freshman seminar.

Nathan was talking about these kids who from an early age were put into all these activities and lessons, to the point to where every waking moment was used to develop them each into a well-rounded, latin-speaking, viola-playing, chess-dominating eight year old.

And all I could think was that I would've turned out to be an entirely different person if I hadn't had the free time as a kid to strain dirt in my backyard with a piece of porch screen and a frisbee.

What would I do with the strained dirt? It didn't matter. The point was, the dirt was no longer full of rocks and pine needles. It was soft and smooth and all over my clothes.

london fog

maybe one of the greatest songs ever written was written by someone who i would consider a good friend. his name is bryce napier. the song is "london fog."

if he'd allow it to be downloadable, then i'd embed it, but click here anyway; myspace.com/oldglow

yes

watch this, please.

i really like this live version of videotape better than the album version. the progression he added to this performance between a couple of the verses is absolutely gorgeous.
